For the 90 meter long roof of the new "Gesundheitscampus" light rail station at the Ruhr University in Bochum, the architecture firm Banz + Riecks uses the open structure to create a metaphor for DNA codes. Together with the bright appearance of the station, the topic of "health" should be taken up in the architecture.
The brilliance of the white, enamelled steel supporting structure, with its incised openings for daylight and artificial light, concentrated in the common areas, achieves the succinct experience of the health campus stop compared to conventional, primarily glazed light rail stops. In addition to the irregular DNA metaphor lighting, the danger area of the platform edge in particular was emphasized by a high-contrast light line as a traffic zone. White, backlit vertical parapets create a fear-free atmosphere at night and are also very resistant to vandalism.
