Friedrich-Heinrich Schacht II colliery shines in a new light

State Garden Show 2020 Kamp Lintfort

KOBER LICHTPLANER from Dortmund have designed a lighting concept for the steel framework of Shaft II of the Friedrich-Heinrich colliery in Kamp-Lintfort for the 2020 State Garden Show.

"Ever since the lighting for the outside area of the Zeche Zollverein and for the coal washery in Essen, I've always been moved when we can participate in the transformation of such a piece of history," says Dipl. Ing. Arch. Nicole Kober, Managing Partner of KOBER Lichtplaner . In close consultation with those involved in the city and the Landesgartenschau GmbH, the lighting planners have developed a concept that allows the tower to shine in its own naturalness. “We opted for the so-called RGBW lighting, i.e. red, green, blue, white, in order to let the tower shine in its natural color at night through a subtle mixture of light. This accentuates the traditional green anti-rust paint of the steel frame,” explains Kober.

No stray light - emphasis on the filigree structures
The lighting concept aims to precisely illuminate the filigree steel construction in order to achieve as much detail and dimensionality as possible. The luminaires, which illuminate the scaffolding from inside and from the base of the tower, reduce stray light on the surroundings. The steel framework will glow from dusk to dawn. A dimming process starts from midnight, so that from 2 a.m. until dawn the lighting is reduced by around 50 percent at night.

The nocturnal illumination of Shaft II in Kamp-Lintfort is another contribution by KOBER Lichtplaner to the industrial culture in the Ruhr area.
